September 1st, 2008

According to research our digestion starts in the mouth and a clean and healthy mouth can prevent aspiration pneumonia, heart attack, stroke, swollen gum’s and gum disease. We all know that our saliva is one of the natural defense in the mouth that fight against bacteria but if reduced the flow of saliva it will results into less washing away of bacteria. Thus a basic oral care involves brushing and flossing the teeth regularly, seeing your dental care professional from regular check ups and cleanings, eating healthy and nutrient- rich foods and avoiding bad habits that includes smoking and excessive intake of alcohol is necessary. Oral care is important to prevent tooth decay and periodontal or gum disease that may result into pocket formation, tooth loose and eventually tooth loss.
